​Paint Livingston 2026 Quick Paint Open Division Rules

Who can participate?

The Paint Livingston Quick Paint Open Division is open to anyone age 18 or older. Artists of every skill level—from first-time plein air painters to experienced professionals—are encouraged to participate.

​

Paint Livingston Featured Artists will also compete in the Quick Paint — in a separate division. You'll have the opportunity to paint alongside some outstanding professional artists.

​

Do I need to register?

Yes. Advance online registration is required. The registration fee is $35 and is non-refundable and non-transferable. 

​

Participation is limited to 25 Open Division artists, and spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Registration closes once all spaces have been filled. Registration on the day of the event will not be available.​

​

What is the schedule?

Check-In: 7:30–9:00am.

​

At check-in, your painting surface will be officially stamped, and you'll receive your artist ID lanyard. Additionally, you'll fill out your painting ID form.

​

Painting begins promptly at 9:00am and ends at 11:00am.

​

Finished artwork must be framed and delivered to the judging area by 11:30am. Painting ID form is completed, and judging will begin shortly afterward.

Where may I paint?

Artists may paint anywhere within the designated Paint Livingston Quick Paint Open Division area in and around downtown Livingston. After your canvas has been stamped, you're welcome to head to your chosen location, but painting may not begin before 9:00am.

​

Artists must wear their Quick Paint ID lanyard at all times during the competition. ​

​

Do not block parking spaces or rights of way for pedestrians or vehicles. 

​

What happens if it rains?

The Paint Livingston Quick Paint Open Division will be held rain or shine. Please come prepared with whatever you need to protect yourself, your equipment, and your artwork if the weather changes.

​

Will my painting be for sale?

Yes. All paintings completed by registered artists will be exhibited following judging and offered for sale beginning at 1:00pm.

​

Artists determine the selling price of their work and receive 70% of the sale price. The remaining proceeds benefit the mission of the Overton County Arts Council.

Open Division Awards

• First Place: $350 plus an invitation to return as a 2027 Paint Livingston Featured Artist

• Second Place: $200

• Third Place: $100

• Honorable Mention: $50

 

What painting media are accepted?

Artists may work in

• Oil

• Watercolor

• Acrylic

• Pastel

• Gouache​​​

What should I bring?

Be sure to bring

• Canvas or painting panel

• Frame for your finished artwork

• Easel for painting

• Paints, brushes, palette, solvents or water, rags, and other supplies

• Optional portable chair or stool

• Drinking water and light snacks

• Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses

• Rain protection for yourself and your artwork

• Clothing appropriate for the weather

• A phone or watch to help keep track of time

 

Tips for your first Paint Livingston Quick Paint Open Division

• Arrive early. Give yourself time to check in and select a location that inspires you.

• Keep your setup simple. A lightweight, portable kit makes moving around much easier.

• Focus on the moment. The goal is to capture the character and atmosphere of the scene—not every tiny detail.

• Have your frame ready. Pre-fitting your frame will make the final minutes much less stressful.

• Most importantly, enjoy yourself! The Paint Livingston Quick Paint Open Division is a welcoming event that celebrates creativity, community, and the joy of painting outdoors.​​​​
